OUR STORY
Brian & Alysia have been managing and promoting Scranton Community events together since the 2014 Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces. They’ve now joined forces even further to offer the community of Scranton, PA a variety of markets and cultural events throughout the year as Anthracite Events.
Alysia has been involved with the Lackawanna County Arts & Culture Department as both a volunteer and a paid artist and coordinator since 2008. Co-founding the well known Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces with Maureen McGuigan, Alysia has dedicated over a decade to community focused events.
She has received the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission 2016 Volunteer of the Year alongside Maureen McGuigan, Deputy Director of the Arts of Lackawanna, for development of Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces for the Iron Furnaces Associates. She has also resided on the board for Iron Furnaces Associates & Lackawanna County Arts & Education, and was a Scranton Chamber Leadership Lackawanna 2013 Graduate and March 2012 Scranton Times Northeast Woman.
Alysia has over 10 years management experience involving organizing and implementing programs for The Lackawanna Arts & Culture Department, Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum, and Penn Foster Career School.
Brian is the Owner and designer of Reclamation Industrial Furnishings and is a 5 year vendor participant. His 12 years business manager, owner, and proprietor and 12 years as a firefighter has made him an asset to helping run the Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces as well as their other events. He’s spent 5 years on the Bonfire committee 4 of which were Chairman.
Brian is the coordinator of fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for the Scranton Fire Department as well as an Anthracite Board Member.
Aside from the Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces, Brian and Alysia built the foundation for Anthracite Events after working together on the 2017 Festival of Trees exhibit at the Marketplace at Steamtown, a fundraiser for Toys for Tots.
Their first large scale community event as Anthracite Events was the 2018 Lackawanna Winter Market at the Globe, where they organized and marketed all aspects, alongside Lackawanna County, to bring the area a great weekend of winter festivities, vendors, and activities.
Anthracite Events continues to serve the community of Scranton through focused small business and creative vendor, activity, and fundraising events all year long.
Anthracite Events has been executing large-scale community events collectively since 2010! offering concept, marketing, planning, budgeting, fundraising & logistics from start to finish. Our success can be attributed to our personal connection to the area’s history and the willingness to preserve and promote our communities people and resources
